Tonight at 8:30 I got a call saying that the projector is not displaying the picture, it just continually searches for an input, going through Scart, VGA 1, VGA 2 and USB.

There are several things that you need to check that could be causing the problem.

Check that the cable is plugged into the correct socket – for VGA, it should go in the VGA in socket and connect to the corresponding socket in the laptop. If you are connecting from a scart socket (in a DVD player for example) or USB then the input on the projector should be labelled. If you are sure you have got it right and you are still getting no signal – check your vga cable and try swapping it cause that may be the problem.

Once the cable is plugged in to the correct socket on the computer and projector the project or should be searching for inputs – on many laptops you will need to tell the laptop to push the output to the correct place. The way to do this on most laptops is to press FN key and then one of the Funtion keys (F1-F12) at the top of your keyboard. Chances are that one of the keys will have something on it that says lcd/crt or an image that looks like 2 different screens. From here you can have the image display just on your computer, on the external screen or on both.

If you cannot find this option, once the laptop is connected to the projector you can go start>>control panel>>display>>settings and from there change the options. From this menu you can also do more advanced features such as splitting your screen between the laptop and projector.
