I was approached by a work colleague about the very interesting Open Source initiative. Wiki on a stick is a very small (to start with) self modifying XHTML file that lets you create notes on a portable WiKi. It can be stored on your HD or better on a USB stick which makes it a portable note taker.  It can be be a great tool for students and those who need to take notes on a regular basis.  To download  it please go to : http://stickwiki.sourceforge.net/

WiKi on a stick is XHTML so it’s cross-plataform and open source, it can be used in conjunction with Portable Firefox and you should have all you need in a USB stick. Portable Firefox can be useful as you can carry your saved passwords and bookmarks with you also.

On my Laptop, which runs Suse SLED 10 with Gnome desktop I normally take notes on the Tomboy Notes application. It’s a great app and you can export your notes as HTML, making it easier for sharing you notes. Tomboy is only available for Linux and Unix.
