Some keyboards carried more bacteria than a toiled sit.

Here is a small extract from the article:

“If you look at what grows on computer keyboards, and hospitals are worse, believe it or not, it’s more or less a reflection of what’s in your nose and in your gut,” he said.

“Should somebody have a cold in your office, or even have gastroenteritis, you’re very likely to pick it up from a keyboard.” [comments by Dr. Dr Peter Wilson - Consultant microbiologist ]

The chinese company Lenovo bought the struggling giant IBM in 2005 and is now close to releasing the new ThinkPad X300 which is set to rival the so talked about MACBook Air. I know if you are a MAC user you will just say “pff another attempt to compete with a MAC” but this is serious competition. The Businessweek Magazine published an outstanding article about it and by the look of it the X300 will be a big fighter in the “ultra thin” laptop war.

The main features on the X300 are the presence of DVD drive, WiFi and Ethernet, removable battery and 3 USB ports compared to the MACBook Air with no DVD drive, Wifi only, 1 USB and non-removable battery. By the way it also fits in an interoffice envelope.

I’ll not attempt to rewrite the article so please read it in full here, also watch and intro video here.

WordPress have just released version 2.3 and I have been playing with it on my personal blog.

I decided to try a test and do the equivalent of ‘non-techie’ install and ignore all their warnings about deactivating plugins and what not before upgrading in an attempt to see if anything broke. [Now, I had taken a FULL backup first - this was a test, remember!]

As it happened, everything upgraded just fine with all my plugins behaving themselves. Version 2.3 has quite a few changes both on the surface and under the hood. The main highlights for users being the integrations of tag management and theme widgitising, the addition of a ‘pending review’ publishing option, some text editing tweaks and some tidying up around URL and blogroll management. Full details of the changes can be found on their website.

It’s still early days, but so far I am very pleased with 2.3. What are some of your experiences?

The new IPod (Touch) released by Apple has the look and feel of an IPhone. It comes with either 8 or 16GB, which is not much really, but for the early adopters (aka gadget enthusiasts) it’s a must have. I have collated some of the features of the IPod Touch from the apple website onto one page for your viewing pleasure:

(content colected from various pages on apple.com and compiled into a single page for easy reading)
Multi-touch interface

Pod touch features the same revolutionary interface as iPhone. Built to take full advantage of the large 3.5-inch display, the multi-touch interface lets you control everything using only your fingers. So you can glide through albums with Cover Flow, flick through photos and enlarge them with a pinch, or zoom in and out on a section of a web page. And iPod touch features a touchscreen QWERTY keyboard perfect for browsing the web in Safari, searching for videos on YouTube, finding music on the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, entering calendar events, or adding new contacts.

Watch Video

Ambient Light Sensor

The iPod touch display has an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts brightness to suit the ambient light in your surroundings. The result? A better experience for you and battery-saving efficiency for iPod touch.
iPod touch ambient light sensor iPod touch accelerometer

Accelerometer

An accelerometer detects when you rotate iPod touch from portrait to landscape, then automatically changes the contents of the display, so you immediately see the entire width of a web page, your music in Cover Flow, or a photo in its proper aspect ratio.

3.5in widescreen display

Wi-Fi web borowsing

Safari

With Apple’s Safari browser built in, iPod touch is the only iPod that gives you wireless access to the web, everywhere you go. See websites the way they were designed to be seen. Sync your bookmarks or add a few as you go. Search the web using the touchscreen keyboard. Zoom in and out by tapping the multi-touch display.

YouTube

Got a bit of a YouTube addiction? iPod touch feeds it from anywhere with a special YouTube player built right in. Watch featured videos, check out the most viewed, search for something specific, then bookmark your favorites for future reference. It’s all the fun of YouTube — pocket-size.

Music downloads from i-Tunes

With iPod touch, you can discover new music anywhere. Built-in wireless capability gives you access to the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, where you can buy songs with a tap. Browse New Releases, What’s Hot, and Just Added lists. Or find exactly what you’re looking for with a quick search. Tap a song to preview it or tap Buy to purchase it. From anywhere.

For those of us who maintain several blogs, crossposting – or the ability to write one blog and then publish it to multiple blogs – is a very handy function!

MySpace has traditionally been one of the hardest to crosspost to, but if you are a WordPress user, then enter some funky php courtesy of Roderick Russell.

Because of some of the limitations of MySpace, and particularly its formatting options, the 2 scripts he has written post an announcement on your MySpace blog that give the title and then direct the user to click through to your WordPress blog. This might sound a bit odd, but actually, those of us who maintain WordPress blogs tend to want users to land there first, rather than MySpace, so I leave that option alone. You can attempt a full post though, if you prefer.

Here is a sample of what the post looks like on MySpace:

Thanks are due, once again, to my good friend Donovan who found the original link.
