I recently needed to transfer about 400 vcards into one csv file for a mail-merge – so one at a time was not too helpful!
I found this tool at http://www.inter-help.com/toolbox/aaron that will convert as many files as you want from a zip folder into a single csv.
Fantastic tool.
Enjoy!

Salesforce has a plugin for Microsoft Outlook that is fantastic to use – called Outlook Connect. However when I first set it up - the login would fail and lock the user out.
In order to prevent this happening you not only need to enter the correct password into Outlook Connect but it needs to be followed (without spaces) by the security key.
The Security key should have been emailed to you by your administrator along with your password to login. However you can reset your security key by going to setup>My Personal Information > Reset your security token.

This will send an email to your email address with the security token that you can then copy and paste into Outlook Connect and it should work.

I have just started using Salesforce (and i LOVE it!) and will be writing little tips about how to do certains things. There are good resources on the salesforce site – but some of the things I will write here I have found it hard to find in their help section.

If you want to change the tabs that you can see when you login to salesforce you need to go to setup (a link on the very top of the page), then click on My personal Information and then you can customize your tabs and related lists. It is a simple proceedure – but as I have been finding with Salesforce – some of the simple things to do are buried under several layers.

I am at a conference and the guy sitting next to me was trying to connect to a wireless access point in Vista. It was saying that it was connected – but it was not getting an internet connection.
I checked the IP address and it was correct , the wirless zero configuration was also set up correctly- so my solution was to download firefox on my laptop and install it on the other laptop…. it worked a dream.
The moral to this story (like many others), is stay away from IE!!!

After messing around for the whole afternoon I imported it back in Outlook and then viewed the contacts, and a lot of them had no first or last name. Once I deleted / Amended these contacts and then exported the file from Outlook and into SugarCRM it worked perfectly….

I hope that helps you!!

My wife’s laptop contracted the antivirus 2009 spyware. This is a pain to get rid of – there are some good and thorough instructions on the windowsxp/vista blog about how to remove it.

HOWEVER I followed these instructions and found that there is a gateway to let the virus in through the MSN interface when you right click and try to get to your inbox, it takes you to a webpage (that the web browser tells you is bad – but some people may ignore this warning!) and then re-installs the software.

To combat this uninstall MSN messenger and then reinstall it – and you should be good to go. Please leave a comment if you have found any other solutions / gateways left by this annoyance!

I was recently recommended this cool tool for getting stats from your inbox. The product is called xobni (inbox backwards). It works with Microsoft Outlook as a pluggin and is a free download.

It indexes your inbox and then works out statistics like who you email the most (it orders everyone in the inbox) and who you are quickest to respond to and vice-versa. It flashes up facts like “bob is the 20th fastest person to email you” (you can even find out the average time that someone takes to email you….my worst was an average of 74 days!).

This is fun, but there is also be a valid application for departmental managers to see how quickly people are responding to customers / other employees / managers.

The really useful aspect of this tool is that whenever you click on an email in your inbox – it gives you a sidebar of information relative to that person. The range of information that it includes is great – everything from all the avaliable contact info, to shortcuts to arrange meetings and phonecalls, to a list of all recent correspondance and all the attached files sent between you two. And of course, there is the stats that show how many times you have emailed each other and their ranking in your inbox!!

It is well worth and look and is easy to install… you can download it here!!!

sidebar

This is one that stumps a lot of ipod touch users; where is the MAC address on my ipod touch?
Well today I thought I would reveal the solution here so mainly I can just send the url the next time I am asked.
Go to the Settings then select General and then select About and then scroll down and you will see the wifi address (MAC address). It is not the most obvious place for the MAC address to be – you would think it would be linked under the Wifi settings….but at least the menu looks good!!

Technorati Tags: ipod touch, MAC Address, ipod networking

I installed Ubuntu on several Dell Latitude C510/C610 that had been properly wiped and were used but empty. Once I figured out an installation CD that worked the installation went smoothly. After rebooting the computer and typing in the user name and password nothing loaded except a message saying ‘you do not have rights to access’, and at this point by adventure into Ubuntu stalled.

It occured to me that the bios date on the laptop was wrong so I thought if I altered that it would be work. Once I got into the bios and changed the date and after a compulsory system check happened (because the computer thought it had not been booted for 2200 days), I was able to log in.

I can only guess that because the installation date will have been in 2008 – but the bios was in 2002, Ubuntu looked at the bios upon booting and did not recognise the creation of a user at a date 6 years in the future.
If anyone has any fact about why this would be the case – please let me know!
